Lake Tear of the Clouds | August 8th, 2016
Dan and I set out at noon on Friday, August 5th to hike 4 high peaks, Redfield, Cliff, Gray, and Skylight. We trekked about 8 miles to a campsite where we dropped most of our weight and headed to the summit of Mt. Redfield. The 46er had decent views but we were out of daylight for Cliff Mountain nearby like we planned. We pitch camp for the night and at 5:30am I set out from Cliff solo. The trail was wet and muddy from the previous night's rain but I got back to camp around 7 and we began out hike to Gray and Skylight. The low clouds covered the mountains all morning which limited our views on the summits but there were some moments when everything broke and we saw some truly magnificent sights. One of them was the photo below at Lake Tear of the Clouds, which is also the start of the Hudson River and the highest pond in the state.
