The Keene Barn
It was still dark out when I woke up to my alarm, 4:40AM. There's something very peaceful about this hour, the time between partiers and night owls going to sleep and the early birds waking up. Getting up before 5AM is rarely easy but I felt awake and ready to be back in the woods. It had been over a month since I bagged any new high peaks which gave me extra motivation to skip the snooze button and get my feet on the floor. I picked up Austin and we started driving the Adirondack Loj. We saw first light hitting the mountains sometime after 6. The morning was chilly and we could see heat rising from the rivers and low lying clouds in the fields. We came to the junction where this photogenic barn rests. For the past few years I've been driving by this barn and nearly every time there's a group of people taking a picture of it. Each time I keep driving thinking that there will be a better opportunity next time. With nobody near the barn or on the road, the early morning light, and the fog was still lingering in the field, this time was the exception.
